Mares

Mares were a Naarm-based 4 piece post rock group. They fused the restlessness of inner-city Melbourne with imagery of oceans and rural bush-scapes.

Psychic Hysteria released their 12” LP, Wherewithal, on June 1, 2018.

Playing with a distinct connection to their Australian context, their bold vocals and picturesque sounds teetered between light and dark, wonder and discontent. Inspired by the music of Rowland S Howard, PJ Harvey and The Triffids, Mares fused the restlessness of inner-city Melbourne with imagery of oceans and rural bush-scapes.

Their driving bass, arching guitars, and intricate pace offer a glimpse into the expansion that exists outside of the city, in open landscapes.
